Word of the Day - Favor

[3] His master saw that the LORD was with him and that the LORD caused all that he did to succeed in his hands. [4] So Joseph found favor in his sight and attended him, and he made him overseer of his house and put him in charge of all that he had.

(Genesis 39:3-4, ESV)

When Joseph was young, his father favored him over all of his brothers. His father gave him a very expensive coat of many colors.

Joseph’s brothers mistreated him because he was given more favor than they were.  Joseph didn’t do anything to warrant the special favor of his father.  Instead of recognizing the favor that their father had given them, the brothers became more and more jealous of Joseph.

If you follow the rest of Joseph’s life in the Bible, you will see that God is the one who is granting favor to him. When the enemy tried to bring him down, the Lord lifted him up.

Today, are you feeling less favored than some of those around you? I am. Are you starting to think that you have not done enough for God to give you His favor?

The Lord is saying to me that I cannot be any more favored than I am today. The Lord loves me with an everlasting love. I am unworthy of anything that He has given me that is good, including His favor.

“For who has understood the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?” But we have the mind of Christ.

(1 Corinthians 2:16, ESV)

Thank you, Father, for giving me the mind of Christ.  May I stay focused on what You are doing, so that I can accept your favor with joy.

Devotion to the Lord

I encourage you to ask the Lord for a definition of devotion. It will be personal, and it may change over time.

Answers from God

Faith [to answer our requests] comes from an intimacy with God, who is [our] Savior, Lord, friend, and Father.
